Quietly washing your clothes

Samsung‚Äôs Quiet VRT WasherSome people don’t wash their clothes, namely the billionnaires who find it more convenient to “wear once and then give away to charity” than actually cleaning their socks, briefs, pants and shirts.

For the overwhelming majority of us, however, washing our clothes is a regular chore that’s all too often accompanied by the loud thumping and bumping whenever the load gets unequally spread. Well, thanks to Samsung’s Energy Star compliant new VRT front-loading laundry machine‘s technological advances, this noisy and shaky nuisance might become (roll of the drum, here) -a thing of the past- (cue in the “ta-daaam”).

The Vibration Reduction Technology (VBR) basically reduces vibrations and washing machine noise during the spin cycle of Samsung’s conventional front-loading washers, making them the quietest on the market (with unbalanced loads).

The VBR technology alone could’ve made this washing machine a hit but Samsung went for a home run by offering this top of the line appliance in a spectrum of colors to provide versatility and style nearky anywhere in the home.

All design-minded consumers will love to choose between Tango Red, Onyx Blue, Stratus Gray and Neat White for their next VBR washing machine and paired dryer. The colors and styling definitely make them an attractive focal point to any living environment.

VRT washers also feature Samsung’s SilverCare technology ‚Äì a new option for cleaning delicate and colored fabrics. SilverCare removes odor causing bacteria in cold water without bleach. It helps keep garments looking their best by minimizing the fading and tattering effects of hot water while saving energy (when compared to standard hot water washing).

With an extra-large capacity of 3.8 cu. ft., the VRT Washing Machine can handle mostly everything from a single pair of jeans to a king size comforter.

Samsung’s VRT Washing Machine is currently available at an MSRP of $1,299 for the Neat White model and $1,399 for the colored models.

The amazing Marina Bay Sands towers

Singapore already has its fair share of tall buildings but none of them look as dazzling as the Marina Bay Sands towers.

Due to open in 2009, the Marina Bay Sands includes a waterfront promenade, a grand shopping arcade, a civic space, a museum, a few hotels, a luxurious casino and vast waterfront areas of parkland.

Dubbed, first and foremost, as a casino complex, these three 50-storey towers have been designed by Moshe Safdie (a renowned architect) for the Las Vegas Sands, a US-based casino gaming company.

Way above street-level, at the very top of the towers, will be the Sky Park. It’s a two acre public space featuring a mix of landscaped gardens, jogging routes and a posh swimming pool with an outstanding view of downtown Singapore.

This unique landmark is sure to become a favored destination for casino gamers and general tourists alike.

Samsung goes hybrid

Samsung HD80 SeriesOn March 7th, 2007, Samsung shipped what it called the world’s first hybrid hard drive although experts might point to the Dynamic Network Factory shipping, in early February 2007, of their own flavor of hybrid hard drive.

Nevertheless, this is a significant announcement because hybrid hard drives combines standard disk drives (spinning plates) with solid-state RAM (256MB OneNAND) to form an energy efficient design. Calling it a smarter hard drive might also define this product correctly.

Samsung’s MH80 Series SATA (1.5GB interface) hybrid hard drive is offered in 80GB, 120GB and 160GB capacities, according the the company’s official statement.

The MH80 Series hybrid hard drive is currently shipping to select OEM customers so the rest of us might soon be able to purchase our very own “hybrid” in retail and commercial outlets.

Apple TVIf you already enjoy your multimedia content on your Mac or PC, you probably caught yourself wishing for a more comfortable chair, only to realize you already have a comfy one in the living room… but how can all that multimedia stuff follow you there?

Run MacOS X… on your new iPhone

Apple's iPhoneRumors come and go but few people believed Steve Jobs when, last September, he hinted there would be an iPhone coming out, sometime "next year", in 2007.

Well, we’re "next year" and the iPhone is for real!

This latest Jobs announcement, from San Francisco’s MacWorld Expo, blows away anything announced at Las Vegas’ CES trade show. Literally. The iPhone is still hot off the stage and already, it’s set to redefine the way people use cellphones, Mac style.

The list of features is so overwhelming that this device might well replace more than one of yours.

For starters, it’s a very slim (11.6 mm = wow) device sporting a 3.5 in 480 x 320 pixels touchscreen display with multi-touch support as well as a smart proximity sensor which knows when the iPhone is close to your ear.

Add to the mix a 2 MP integrated camera, 4 GB or 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth with EDR and A2DP, Wi-Fi which instantly activates when in range for service as well as a quadband GSM radio with EDGE. It also runs MacOS X which is downright amazing!

Find your way with your iPhoneThe iPhone cleverly combines 3 products into one convenient device.

It’s a (1) mobile phone, a (2) widescreen iPod with touch controls and an (3) on-the-road internet communications device featuring desktop-class e-mail, web browsing, maps and searching.

The user interface used to control the iPhone is based on a large multi-touch display that lets you do anything and everything… with your fingers (no more need for a stylus).

There’s a lot more to say about the iPhone, namely through the partnerships with Google and Yahoo! but for now, let’s just mention it’s offered as a Cingular exclusive, in the US, for 499$ (4 GB) or 599$ (8 GB) on a 2 year contract.

It’s expected to ship stateside in June while Europe is scheduled around October and Asia, somewhere in 2008.

Keep in mind this device is most probably giving heart attacks to executives (and stockholders) at competing cellphone manufacturers who face Apple as a fierce new competitor that apparently has everything to please, even the price tag.
